Abstract Technology has influenced teaching, yet we know little about physical educators’ predispositions and use in Universal Basic Education (UBE). One of the goals for integrating information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching physical education is to enhance teaching and learning practices, thereby improving the quality of education at this level. However, in most developing countries like Nigeria, the potential of ICT to support pedagogy is yet to be fully realized. Up until now, most of the attention, both in policy and research, has been on how the lack of infrastructure and access to technology affect the use of ICT in Universal Basic Education (UBE). So this paper x-rays: how ICT in physical education is designed as a tool for increasing instructional effectiveness in UBE, the impact of ICT use on classroom teaching and learning in UBE, and the path towards effective implementation of ICT in Universal Basic Education. Recommendations were made to effect the appropriate use of information and communication technology in teaching physical education in the universal basic education programme.

Abstract ABSTRACT Sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of youth in the Sub-West African region, but there are numerous challenges that hinder their effective use. Infrastructure deficits, limited access to training grounds, and inadequate funding for sports programmes and infrastructure are some of the main obstacles. Cultural norms and gender disparities also pose significant challenges, particularly affecting girls' access to sports and creating an imbalance between male and female youth opportunities. Additionally, a lack of awareness and education about the holistic advantages of sports further hinders its integration into mainstream youth development agendas. However, there are several prospects for transformative change, including investment in infrastructure development, targeted funding from governments, NGOs, and corporate entities, gender-inclusive policies and programmes, community engagement strategies, and technological advancements. Gender-inclusive policies and programmes, coupled with community engagement strategies, can promote equal opportunities for girls and boys in sports. Awareness campaigns and educational programmes can help dispel misconceptions and promote the benefits of sports in youth development. Technological advancements, such as online coaching resources, virtual training modules, and mobile applications, can reach a wider youth demographic, even in remote areas. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders, including government bodies, non-profit organisations, educational institutions, sports federations, and private sector entities, are essential in addressing these challenges and capitalising on the identified prospects. A cohesive approach that integrates policy reforms, sustainable funding mechanisms, community involvement, and robust educational initiatives can unlock the transformative power of sports in fostering holistic youth development across the Sub-West African region.

Abstract The study explores the impact of the teacher’s role as a "map finder" on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills in human kinetics and sports science education in the 21st century. It further examines how the integration of advanced teaching technologies moderates the effectiveness of this approach in promoting global competencies. Utilizing a descriptive survey design, data was collected from 100 students through a structured questionnaire. Statistical analyses, including chi-square tests, were employed to evaluate the hypotheses. Findings revealed that teachers acting as "map finders" significantly enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as evidenced by high mean scores for statements related to understanding complex concepts (M=2.63, SD=0.36440) and exploring multiple solutions (M=2.55, SD=0.32454). The integration of advanced technologies, such as virtual reality and AI, was found to improve teachers’ effectiveness in fostering global competencies, including collaboration and adaptability (M=3.10, SD=0.79523). However, responses highlighted some variability, particularly in the use of specific tools like performance analysis technologies. Chi-square results (?²=23.876, p<0.05) confirmed the significant influence of the "map finder" role on student outcomes and the positive moderating effect of technology. The study concludes that the "map finder" teaching approach, coupled with innovative tools, is crucial for equipping students with critical skills required in a dynamic, globalized world. Recommendations include enhancing teacher training programs, investing in advanced technologies, standardizing their use, and revising curricula to emphasize global competencies.

Abstract The study aimed to examine the impact of a daily 45-minute physical road walking regimen on the blood pressure and blood sugar levels of 100 lecturers at the University of Delta. The study involved 100 lecturers divided into two groups: an experimental group engaged in daily 45-minute road walking and a control group maintaining their regular routines. The experimental group was exposed to a structured road walking program, while the control group continued their usual activities without any prescribed exercise regimen. Statistical analyses showed a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels in the experimental group compared to the control group. Additionally, the experimental group showed a notable decrease in fasting blood sugar levels and HbA1c levels compared to baseline measures. Statistical analyses, including paired t-tests and ANOVA, were conducted to evaluate changes within and between groups. Results indicated a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.05).The findings suggest that implementing a daily 45-minute physical road walking routine among lecturers positively contributes to their cardiovascular health and glycemic control. The study emphasizes the potential benefits of incorporating moderate-intensity physical activity into daily routines, particularly in professions with sedentary work environments. The study advocates for the integration of exercise interventions into academic professionals' lifestyles to promote their overall health and well-being. Further research with larger sample sizes and longer intervention periods could provide deeper insights into the sustained benefits of physical activity in similar occupational settings when undertaken.
